In New Jersey, Pro Bono service is being, involving or doing legal work donated especially for the public good.
New Jersey Pro Bono Summary: Legal Services of New Jersey (LSNJ), an independent, non-profit organization, coordinates the statewide Legal Services system. LSNJ strives to ensure equal access to justice under law to all people of New Jersey, providing free legal assistance to low-income people in civil matters. Clients can access the statewide legal hotline which provides legal information, advice and referral to low-income residents of New Jersey with civil legal problems (criminal cases are referred). This service is provided at no charge but applicants must be financially eligible to qualify. The hotline handles all cases over the telephone and does not provide ongoing legal representation. All callers are screened for income eligibility prior to receiving services. The hotline is open from Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.(1-888-LSNJ-LAW) (1-888-576-5529).
